Space- The Heliocentric Model

The Heliocentric Model- this lesson teaches children about another model of the Solar System in which was believed by another Ancient Scientist. This lesson requires children to make a jigsaw of the model and figure out which planets have been included/left out. There is also an aspect of role play, for children to act as the planets rotating around the sun. Included: *A powerpoint presentation *A jigsaw activity where children re-make the heliocentric model. *A detailed lesson plan. *True and false statements to sort. It is a follow on lesson from others in which I have uploaded but can be taught as a stand alone lesson also. To see a more in-depth snippet of this product, please see my preview :)
Creating your own Classification Key

Creating your own Classification Key

(0)
Dreading a dull lesson on how to create a classification key? Look no further because here your children will be super engaged by creating a classification key for different types of sweets! Included: An activity to allow children to try classify animals in pairs. & An editable Power Point which explains: What ‘classifying’ is. How to create your first question for a key. How to use a classification key. Allows children to work collaboratively by encouraging them to engage in ‘partner talk’. It encourages them to JUSTIFY their choice of groups. Heightening their reasoning skills is very important, especially in Science. I completed this lesson this week as an introduction to classification keys. Next week we will be classifying vertebrates and invertebrates. Please leave a comment to let me know your thoughts.

A fun lesson which allows children to practically lay out the distance from each planet to the sun by using toilet paper. It is a whole class activity, and it allows children to see what each distance looks like in a creative way. Learning from the previous lesson is reinforced also.

Dissolving: 3 experiments

This lesson involves an exciting experiment to understand the terms: *dissolve *solute *solution *solvent *soluble Children will work in mixed ability groups and conduct 3 different experiments to see which factors have an influence on dissolving. It worked fantastically in the use and understanding of the scientific terms listed above. Children will then feedback to the class about what they discovered from their investigation and as a class we will conclude as to which factors effect dissolving most. This lesson comes well resourced with: *a step-by-step guide, for each group, in how to conduct their experiment along with the equipment needed. *Key Vocabulary for reference or display purposes. *Flash cards explaining the terms for low ability or visual learners. *A detailed lesson plan *An interactive notebook file *Post/prior assessment tool Overall, a very enjoyable lesson which allows the children to learn and understand the scientific terms in a practical way. Please leave a review and let me know how you and your class liked this resource.

Notebook presentation and lesson plan included. (If you do not have notebook on your computer, you can download Notebook viewer for free). http://notebook-interactive-viewer.software.informer.com/download/#downloading This lesson is based on the discoveries of ancient scientists. It allows children the opportunity to research on specific areas of science and find out what and how they discovered what they did. It also poses questions and allows children to think about what has not yet been discovered and what they would like to be discovered. Check out my other resources too if you get a chance: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Morrisr9

What is a Scientist? Year 5 Science Planning

This is an extremely practical lesson that I used as an introduction to the topic of Ancient Scientists. Children need to carry out experiments that represent different types of research. In one of the experiments, children need to taste chocolate, in another they need to test which ball floats the best etc. This lesson introduces the different types of scientific research in a fun, practical way. My children really enjoyed this lesson and it was a fantastic introduction to the topic. Notebook presentation and lesson plan included. This lesson is very fun and interesting, while encouraging scientific enquiry and language throughout the whole lesson. This resource comes with a detailed, differentiated plan, activity resources and a step-by-step support notebook. Children will be investigating foams and deciding which foam is the best insulator to keep ice-cream from melting. A messy lesson, but one to remember. It contains enough material for a one hour lesson. Included: *A detailed lesson plan *A colourful notebook file to engage children’s curiosity in the topic *A prior and post assessment tool *An experiment grid to record their findings.
